About This Spot
Step inside Carmelita’s Taqueria, Inc., and you’re immediately greeted by a warm, inviting rhythm that feels both familiar and alive. Nestled along Alvarado-Niles Road in Union City, this spot carries the steady, comforting pulse of a neighborhood gathering place where time slows just enough to savor genuine connection and hearty flavors. The atmosphere hums with casual energy—a blend of cozy chatter, vibrant music, and the welcoming glow of natural light that spills across stylish yet unpretentious décor.
Here, the mood is relaxed but lively, an easygoing balance that makes it the kind of place you could drop into any day—whether it’s for a quick lunch escape or a leisurely brunch with family. The service mirrors this tone: patient and personal, attentive without rushing, as if the staff enjoys sharing the story behind each dish just as much as the flavors themselves.
The culinary experience is deeply rooted in authentic Mexican traditions, where every bite suggests a practiced hand and a respect for time-honored recipes. Imagine savoring the comforting warmth of a steaming bowl of menudo or the vibrant zest of a super nachos platter, each element crafted with care and layered with flavor. These aren’t just menu items; they’re reminders of the everyday moments that bring people together over food—like the soft comfort of a burrito enchilado or the subtle spice of camarones a la diabla that lingers pleasantly on the palate.
Whether you’re new to Mexican cuisine or a devoted fan, Carmelita’s creates an approachable space to explore and enjoy. The joy here isn’t in rushing through a meal but in embracing the shared experience—feeling the hum of a family-style meal, where familiar tastes spark new favorites and every visit feels like coming home. It’s a place where the food, atmosphere, and genuine care combine to create more than just a meal, but a moment that stays with you long after the last bite.

First time coming here and it was very good. Great customer service! Came during brunch on a Saturday and was attended very quickly. Will definitely be returning again. Very good food!

My friend and I, both new to the area, decided to try out a new restaurant for lunch. The place had a fantastic vibe from the moment we walked in. Upbeat calypso music filled the air, and the combination of natural light and stylish décor created a great atmosphere. The server patiently explained the menu to us. We ordered at the register and then took a number for our table. The service was exceptional - our server anticipated our needs and was always attentive. For lunch, I had a delicious chicken taco plate with a refreshing horchata drink. My friend opted for the chicken tortas, a Mexican-style sandwich. We also shared a plate of Rollitos Encanelados for dessert. The complimentary tortilla chips and fresh salsa were a delightful bonus. The food was amazing, and the entire experience was so enjoyable that we decided to return for their Tuesday Taco special! I highly recommend this restaurant, but be aware that parking can be a challenge due to nearby grocery stores.

I typically don't go for Mexican food, so I was unsure what to get. What drew me in were the Quesabirrias. One bite and well .... I knew I had to come back some day (soon). The chicken and beef burrito supremo was also delicious. Call me a convert to Mexican food. Come check this place out!

Delicious authentic Mexican food!!! It’s crazy that I have lived in the Fremont area for several years and not once visited this restaurant. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, this will be your new favorite spot. My hubby and I woke up on a Sunday wanting menudo, so I searched nearby places and Carmelita’s came up first, after reading the great reviews we decided to go here. Little did we know that we were going to end up finding menudo that tasted like home, with options of adding tendon, pata, and nervio. Then to top it off, handmade tortillas!! The pricing is fair and the ambiance is the perfect setting to enjoy your food. In addition to the amazing menudo, I highly suggest trying their quesabirras! These were so good! You get them with a side of consumé and we added rice and beans to our plate to make it a nice combination plate. If your live in the tri-city area, this place is a must try, you will not regret coming here!

Lovely little Mexican restaurant. The food is amazing and the flavours are on point! Really love their carnitas tacos. The staff are super helpful with the menu and very friendly! I find during regular mealtimes there are a lot of people that come and go, but it dosent take long for the food to come out. Besides the complimentary chips and salsa always tides you over.

The place is small but the food is great. I recommend the chicken soup and the menudo. They give you handmade tortillas with any soup you order. Today, I had the three red chicken enchiladas, which came with rice and beans. They were a little too dry, but the rice and the bean were on point. I also had a jamaica water. A big vaerity of mexican sodas. The place looks clean it is quiet. It has a bathroom and parking lot.
